1. Lake Toba

Lake Toba ranks first as the largest lake in Indonesia, even the largest volcanic lake in the world. The area of this lake reaches 1,130 km2, it is estimated that the water volume is about 240 km3, with a maximum depth of 529 m. 2. Lake Towuti 

The second place is occupied by Lake Towuti. Lake Towuti is a tectonic lake located in East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi Province. Its surface area reaches 561 km2 with a maximum depth of 203 m.

3. Lake Poso 

Poso Lake is a tectonic lake located in Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi, and ranks third as the largest lake in Indonesia with an area of 323 km2 and a water volume of 0.216 km3. The maximum depth of this lake is estimated at around 450 m.

4. Lake Sentarum 

The area of Sentarum lake reaches 275 km2 and confirms it as the fourth largest lake in Indonesia. This Sentarum Lake is a type of Floodplain lake or a lake formed by rivers that flood and cover the plains which are generally mud and sand. Danau Sentarum is located in the province of West Kalimantan. The maximum depth of this lake is about 8 m.

5. Lake Matano 

Lake Matano is located in East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. This lake is the deepest in Indonesia, with a maximum depth of up to 590 meters. It is about 164 km2 in area. Lake Matano is a tectonic lake located on the island of Sulawesi, South Sulawesi Province, and ranks 5th as the largest lake in Indonesia.
